Summer 2017 (aka, welcome back to America)

I haven't written in here forever! But with the summer coming quickly to an end I thought it might be fun to update with all of the things I have done since I've returned from the U.S. (on May 6) because it has been a busy and crazy summer.

My family threw me a welcome home party complete with lots of pineapples and gummi bears.

And my favorite Vietnamese food. Though this Bò lúc lắc does not hold a candle to the dirty greasy street version that I would kill for about now.

My best friend had a baby! This was one of the biggest things I wanted to be back in time for.

I went to a Golden Girls Bar Crawl in Minneapolis

Saw the Guillermo Del Toro exhibit at the Minneapolis Institute of Art (which was so cool).

Went hiking in northern Minnesota

Saw Afroman in Mankato. Did you know he has more than 3 songs?

Drove alllll the way to Chicago to see Mother Mother (one of my all time favorite bands!). This is another thing I was rushing to get back to the U.S. for.

And stopped to see the houses where they film Shameless while we were in town!

Also I got addicted to watching Shameless this summer.

I also saw Pat Benetar at Mankato's Ribfest. But didn't take a picture. Bummer!

Saw the Science of Pixar exhibit at the Minnesota Science Museum.

Which was so cool for an animation fanatic like me. I know a lot about traditional animation but CGI is not my forte. I learned so much.

I turned TWENTY FIVE YEARS OLD! Which is a big deal and I am so excited to be a quarter of a century old.

My friend Abree got married! (At the same park on the same week I had my birthday party. Some nerve)

And we rounded it off the same way we always do. Me and my best friend's since high school have been camping at this camp ground every summer for the past 10 years.

We always spend a night here at the end of the summer. It's so cool to see everyone year after year and catch up and it is so much fun. It is literally my favorite day of the year.

So you know. I haven't been going very far, but I've gotta saw the midwest is a pretty sweet place with a lot to do and see that I'm going to make the most of while I'm here.

Here are some of my favorite instagrams from summer of 2017. Feel free to follow me on there.

Phú Quốc Island

My last week in Vietnam happened to fall during the holiday of Reunification Day, Victory Day or Liberation Day, which is the celebration of the end of the Vietnam War (as we know it in America). You might remember us celebrating it last year. So we had several days off for vacation.

Also because of the way our pay periods work here, I would not have been paid for my last five days of work, so I took the days off and had an extra long vacation. We decided to spend my last week in Vietnam on Phú Quốc Island.

Phú Quốc is a small island to the West of Vietnam (and actually closer to Cambodia). More than half of the island is a national park with mountains, dense forests, and animals. The island is surrounded with white sand beaches and clear water. It's most popular as a tourist destination and is filled with resorts, restaurants, bars, spas, and more.

It was a very nice, relaxing week with four of my roommates. Not much to say, so I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.

Puppies at our hotel. Dogs in Phu Quoc are very respected and loved, which is extremely different from Ho Chi Minh City.

Our first hotel (we stayed at two places)

At the northern point. The land in the distance is Cambodia.

Our second hotel.
